i.The short version

A Place Recalled does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information. Your audio captures, locations, and memory names stay on your device and in your private iCloud account.

ii.How the app uses the microphone

When you tap the capture button, the app records ambient audio using your device's microphone for up to 30 seconds. This recording is held only in memory while the app finds a clean loop point and applies a gentle polish. When you tap Keep, the chosen loop is encoded as an audio file and saved on your device. The original raw recording is never written to disk and is discarded once you decide.

Before each capture, the app briefly listens for nearby human voices and warns you if it hears any — so you can choose to wait or continue. That brief listen also lives in memory only, never written anywhere, and is discarded as soon as the check completes.

iii.How the app uses location

Location is optional. If you allow it, the app records a single coordinate at the moment of capture so the memory can appear on a map later. No continuous tracking. No movement history. The coordinate stays on your device and in your private iCloud account, exactly like the audio.

You can turn location off in the app's Settings at any time, or never grant the system permission in the first place — captures still work without it.

iv.Where your data lives

Your device. The app keeps a local copy so it works offline.
Your private iCloud account. If you are signed into iCloud, Apple syncs your captures (audio, names, coordinates, map snapshots) across your devices. It's encrypted by Apple and accessible only to you. sthreelabs cannot read it.

v.What the app does NOT collect

No analytics or usage tracking.
No advertising identifiers.
No background location, motion, or movement history.
No third-party SDKs, ad networks, or telemetry libraries.
No account registration. There is no A Place Recalled account or login.
No push notifications beyond standard iCloud sync.

vi.On-device processing

All audio processing — voice pre-check, loop detection, equal-power crossfade, polish chain — happens entirely on your device using Apple's frameworks. No audio data is sent anywhere off your device.

The map snapshots are generated locally using Apple's MapKit and recolored on-device with Core Image. No third-party map services are contacted.

vii.Third-party services

The app uses only Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) to sync your captures across your devices. No other third-party services are used.

viii.Children's privacy

The app is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.

ix.Deleting your data

To delete a single memory, swipe it away in the library. To delete everything, delete the app from your device. To remove the iCloud copy as well, after deleting the app go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → A Place Recalled → Delete Data.

x.Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in any material way, the "Last updated" date above will change and the new policy will be posted on this page.
